We're excited to announce today that The Hiring Engine is relaunching as Team Engine to reflect the needs of our customer—not just to help them build great teams, but also to manage and lead their employees day to day.
When we started the company, we interviewed small business owners across America to understand the challenges they faced. We believed that too often technology entrepreneurs focused only on solving problems faced by people just like them—people sitting in offices in front of a computer all day who dressed just like them.
By building technology for the small businesses that run most of America, we believed we could make things better—for the businesses, for their employees, and for their customers.
Talking to blue-collar businesses of all sizes, over and over we heard stories about how people are the lifeblood of the business, but that building and managing a team was hard. Really hard.
We started with hiring because we saw a clear opportunity to help businesses fill open roles quickly with better people through texting, automation, and intelligent job posting with ads. As we grew, we quickly saw that people were using the tools we'd built for hiring to manage and communicate with employees once they'd been hired.
Digging deeper, we started to see a unique set of challenges emerge:
- HR and management had no easy way to communicate with employees in a way that didn't involve manually tracking everyone down (a huge pain) or manually writing messages on a whiteboard in the breakroom (not effective).
- Tasks that required lots of back and forth between HR or supervisor and employees, like payroll reconciliation or open enrollment, took forever since most employees weren't actively using email.
- Furthermore, language barriers added extra layers of complexity as everything needed to be translated.
- Getting work done just became more inefficient and slow. If a team ran out of supplies or a machine broke, there wasn't a clear way to quickly resolve it without starting to call around the office or to track down someone in person.
By providing the necessary tools to build a great team through hiring coupled with easy ways to manage and lead your team quickly and effectively, Team Engine empowers blue-collar business to run more efficiently, save money, and better serve their customers.
